Rodrigo, the scorer of Valencia CF’s opener in the derby against Levante, spoke to Spanish television channel Movistar+ LaLiga following the final whistle. The striker assessed the return to competition and the controversial penalty decision which resulted in the game ending 1-1.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling, obviously. We did enough to have won the game, especially after scoring so late on and having an extra man. I don’t know if it was a penalty or not, but it’s a shame that the game ended in a draw. Now we have to focus on the next game,” said the striker.
“Obviously a win would have taken us closer, but there are still 30 points up for grabs and we are 3 points off the Champions League spots. There are many games to go. LaLiga is going to be just as competitive as before; the first few games will be harder in terms of fitness, and we have to think about what is coming up. We’re sorry about not winning tonight, but tomorrow is another day.”
“We’d already played a game behind closed doors,” continued Rodrigo. “It’s a little strange because it isn’t the same, but it is what it is. At least we can get returning day-by-day to normality. Football has great importance in people’s lives, and I hope we can end the season with calm and security and we can achieve our objectives.”
